A CITY WITH A NAVAL PAST AND A BRIGHT FUTURE
Portsmouth is the UK’s only island city and has been a significant naval port for centuries. It has the world’s oldest dry dock, is home to two-thirds of the UK’s surface fleet and some of the most famous ships in the world including Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory and the Tudor Carrack Mary Rose.
There has been extensive redevelopment of old naval buildings and this has made the city a vibrant, modern place to live in and visit. As the city has such a storied history it is little wonder that many of the main attractions in Portsmouth are related to it, from ships to memorials. Most of its former defences have been turned into museums or event venues and a thriving arts and culture scene has developed over the years.
With the help of our local florists we have selected a few attractions, cultural highlights and restaurants for you to visit.
TOP LOCAL ATTRACTIONS AND ACTIVITIES
Created from reclaimed land in 1771, this Site of Special Scientific Interest is internationally important for migratory birds and offers a fantastic day out with stunning scenery.
