WHAT ABOUT CHELTENHAM?

Standing on the River Chelt on the edge of the Cotswolds, Cheltenham is not only the most complete Regency Town in the UK. This historic town offers an eclectic mix of traditional and modern culture. As home to the world’s oldest literature festival, not to mention world class jazz, science and music festivals, it has earned it’s moniker as the festival Town. Oh, and there is some horse racing, too. The Cheltenham Festival, featuring the Gold Cup, is held in March and is a key meeting In the National Hunt racing calendar. This four day event was first held in 1860, and is now a world renowned sporting event. However, there is much more to the town than festivals, there are numerous local attractions and a multitude of things to do. Below we will list some of our local florist’s top tips.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

IMPERIAL GARDENS

Dating from 1818 and originally reserved for patients at the Sherbourne Spa, these stunning gardens are adjacent to the Town Hall, framed by regal looking townhouses and locally famed for their floral displays containing 25,000 beautiful flowers each spring. The gardens are an elegant setting for a host of outdoor events, including the Jazz, Science, and Music Festivals, and are also home to a statue of a famous Cheltenham son, Gustav Holst.

MONTPELLIER DISTRICT, THE PROMENADE

The Montpellier District is home to a variety of independent business from antiques dealers to wine bars giving the area a bohemian chic and a pleasant vibe. It is also home to one of the country’s oldest shopping centres, the Montpellier Arcade, which opened in 1832. However, if it is shopping you want, The Promenade is the place to be. Shaded with a variety of trees, first planted in 1818, The Promenade is one of the most treasured shopping streets in the country and home to a number of upmarket retailers. Not to mention a host of locals, independent cafes and restaurants.

WHERE TO EAT?

Obviously, Michelin starred restaurant, Le Champingnon Sauvage, is top of the list, but may be out of most budgets. Never fear, Cheltenham has a number of local restaurants offering a diverse selection of cuisines.

WOODKRAFT

Opened by MasterChef 2015 champion, Simon Wood, this relaxed and informal restaurant specialises in providing a menu of fresh, local produce with a farm to fork philosophy. Using only ethical local farmers and producers, the seasonal fare on offer is sustainable and delicious.

BAR & WOK

This noodle bar has been a favourite with locals and visitors alike for over a decade.

PAPARRITOS

A Mexican Cantina specialising in awesome burritos containing only the freshest produce, and offering a healthy fast food alternative to endless chain restaurants.

THE GLOUSCESTER OLD SPOT

With a large Beer Garden and a large selection of local beers to sample there, this traditional pub offers exceptional food and is one of only 25  in the Uk to have a Good Pub Guide Star.
