BRIGHTON: A VIBRANT, MODERN CITY PLAYING AN IMPORTANT ROLE FOR THE FUTURE

Brighton is one of the two main areas of the city Brighton & Hove, located on the south coast of England. It is part of the ceremonial county of East Sussex and the historical county of Sussex. There is archaeological evidence that settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age, but it was in the Georgian era that Brighton developed the reputation as a fashionable seaside resort that it still holds to this day. In fact, it has been referred to as both Britain’s ‘hippest city’ and the ‘happiest place to live in the UK’. With a diverse and progressive population, the city and surrounding area is at the forefront of the push for environmental protections and leads the way in future-proofing the plant and flower species of the world. However, before we talk about the Millennium Seed Bank, we should also mention that Brighton is home to a number of cultural attractions and has numerous independent shops to visit and restaurants to eat in. As such there are almost as many city guides, to do and must visit lists that it can be over whelming, so our local florists have compiled their own list of favourite attractions.

MILLENIUM SEED BANK

It would be remiss of florists not to mention this vitally important project that is run by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and is held at Wakehurst botanic garden in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a short distant to the north of Brighton. Not only are the surroundings lush and filled with fresh flowers, underground over 2.4 billion seeds have been stored to safeguard them for the future. Scientists here are at work storing seeds in sub-zero chambers in radiation, bomb and flood-proof.
